Things That Seem Safe But Will Ruin Your Photoshoot

Things That Seem Safe But Will Ruin Your Photoshoot

So you have a shoot in three days and zero time to plan. The default move is grabbing something plain — a white blouse, beige tones, that blazer you wear to everything. Feels responsible. It's not.

The neutral trap

Flat colors with no texture read as a void on camera. Photographers hate it because there's nothing to work with. Light bounces off a white shirt in ways that make you look washed out, not clean and polished.

What actually kills the shot

  1. Wearing something brand new that you haven't moved in before
  2. Tight waistbands — they show up in every seated pose
  3. Shiny synthetic fabrics — they catch light like a mirror
  4. Matching your top to the background color the photographer chose

The "I'll figure it out on the day" approach costs you reshoots. If you're short on time, pick one outfit you've worn at least twice, check it has some visual texture, and you're already ahead of most people who spend hours panicking.
